WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Wake Forest bounced back with a 3-1 ACC volleyball win over in-state rival NC State on Sunday afternoon, taking the final two sets 25-21 and 25-23.

Graduate student Ryleigh Whitekettle, a Topsail Beach native, chipped in 12 kills, four blocks and four digs, pushing her team-leading kill total to 247. Senior Andrea Roman had a match-high 11 digs for Wake Forest and has 313 this season, the most in the ACC.

The fourth set stayed tight until the end. NC State pushed ahead late before Wake Forest strung together a five-point run for a 20-18 edge, and two Wolfpack errors sealed the set and the match.

Several Deacs hit milestones. Redshirt junior Catherine Burke reached 50 blocks for the season, junior Dhru Lalaji passed 100 digs, sophomore Amina N’Diaye posted a career-best 10 digs and sophomore Sadie Poeck tied her season high with nine kills.

The win moved Wake Forest to 35-36 all-time against NC State and 22-15 at home in the series.

NC State opened the season by winning all three matches at its own Summit Hospitality Tournament in Raleigh, beating George Washington, Wofford and Charlotte, and earlier in league play the Wolfpack split a home weekend by falling 3-1 to No. 24 North Carolina before topping Duke 3-1.

The Wolfpack return to Reynolds Coliseum in Raleigh to host SMU on Friday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m., with Pitt also coming to Raleigh later in the homestand.
