WINNIPEG, Manitoba — Nikolaj Ehlers came back to the city where he spent a decade and beat his old team, scoring a third-period power-play goal that gave the Carolina Hurricanes a 3-2 win over the Jets on Saturday and stretched their winning streak to seven games.
Ehlers broke a 2-2 tie at 6:43 of the third with a shot from the high slot past Clay Stevenson. It was his first goal of the season, and with it he has now scored against all 32 NHL teams. He played 10 seasons in Winnipeg, from 2015 to 2025.
Carolina trailed twice. Mark Scheifele forced a turnover and scored on a backhand early in the second period for a 1-0 Jets lead. Mark Jankowski answered on the power play at 8:19, but Winnipeg went back ahead at 10:59 when Adam Lowry stole the puck from a roaming Pyotr Kochetkov and set up Alex Iafallo for an easy finish. Jesperi Kotkaniemi tied it at 16:50 by deflecting a Shayne Gostisbehere point shot.
Jankowski kept his goal streak going and now has six goals in nine games, a sharp jump from his 11 goals over 68 games a year ago. He has taken on a bigger role with Seth Jarvis, Taylor Hall and Jordan Staal all sidelined by injuries. Gostisbehere finished with two assists.
Kochetkov stopped 21 shots and is 5-0-0, only the second Hurricanes goalie to open a season with five straight wins. He saved the game in the final 40 seconds with a pad stop on Cole Perfetti and another on a shot that hit his helmet. Stevenson made 34 saves for Winnipeg, which suffered its first regulation loss at home this season.
Carolina scored twice with the man advantage and killed off the only Jets power play. At 7-1-1, the Hurricanes are a perfect 5-0 away from home, a road start no Carolina team had managed before.
There is little time to rest. The Hurricanes play at Calgary on Sunday at 8 p.m. Eastern, and their next home game is Tuesday, Oct. 28, against Boston.
