Gallicchio’s Italian Market Opens on Person Street in Raleigh

Published October 18, 2026 at 6:44 am | By Silvia Little, Staff Reporter

HERE BREAKING

RALEIGH, N.C. — A chef who grew up around the Italian delis of the Northeast has brought that style of shop to Raleigh. Gallicchio’s Market & Eatery is now open on Person Street in the Oakwood neighborhood.

The market fills the space that used to house Ish Deli, in the same building as Person Street Pharmacy. Stacy Murphy, the owner, is an Oakwood resident herself, and she has said being close to home was a big part of why she picked the spot.

Her menu pairs Italian American standards with touches from New Orleans. Customers can order a roast pork sandwich with broccoli rabe, a meatball panini made with polpette, a version of the muffaletta, a fish plate and fresh salads. The kitchen also makes prepared dishes and meals to take home.

Her training came at the Connecticut Culinary Institute. From there her career ran through New Orleans, where she spent time in the kitchen at Emeril’s and did brief turns at both Herbsaint and Commander’s Palace, and then Boston, before she relocated to the Triangle in 2014. She has said regional Italian American cooking is her favorite food to make, and that she only realized how rare it is after leaving the Northeast.

She sees Person Street as a growing place to eat out and points to nearby spots such as Crawford & Son and Standard Beer + Food. Updates on the shop are posted on its Instagram page.

The street marks the western side of Historic Oakwood, which lies just east of downtown. The neighborhood is a National Register historic district of Victorian-era houses built between the 1870s and the 1920s, and it grew up as one of the first well-to-do residential areas in the city, home to merchants and politicians.
