RALEIGH, N.C. — Andrei Svechnikov scored two goals, including the winner with 6:04 left in the third period, to lead the Carolina Hurricanes to a 4-2 win over the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh.
Eric Robinson and Mark Jankowski also scored for the Hurricanes, who have won six straight. Goalie Pyotr Kochetkov made 20 saves and improved to 4-0-0 this season. Boone Jenner and Justin Holl scored for Washington.
Svechnikov tied the game at 1-1 by poking in a rebound 3:58 into the second period, then beat Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson with a backhander on the power play for the go-ahead goal. Later he set up Mark Jankowski for an insurance tally after chasing down a play in the offensive zone.
It was the last scheduled visit to Raleigh for Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin, who received a standing ovation early in the first period. The Hurricanes, who were without captain Jordan Staal, kept Ovechkin in check while extending their winning streak at home.
Carolina improved their record to 6-1-1 after the 4-2 win on Tuesday night at the Lenovo Center. Andrei Svechnikov scored twice in the victory, and a Boone Jenner goal had given Washington the early lead before Carolina answered.
The Carolina Hurricanes play home games at Lenovo Center, formerly known under earlier arena names and home of the franchise since 1999. The Hurricanes begin a five-game road trip at Winnipeg on Saturday after closing this home stand with the Capitals win before heading out of Raleigh.
