Hal Worth was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. He attended Woodberry Forest School, from which he graduated in 1958. Following his high school education, he enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics in 1962. His academic background laid the foundation for his extensive career spanning over five decades in real estate and property investment.

Military Service

After completing college, Worth served for two years as a Naval Supply Officer. He was commissioned through the Naval ROTC program at UNC, gaining leadership experience and discipline that would inform his subsequent professional pursuits.

Professional Career

Hal Worth dedicated more than 56 years to York Properties, initially working as the right-hand man to founder J.W. “Willie” York. Over time, he advanced to become the company’s Chief Investment Officer. His role involved overseeing investment strategies, leveraging his strong work ethic, and applying his extensive knowledge in mathematics and accounting. Recognized as an outstanding negotiator, Worth contributed significantly to the growth, stability, and success of York Properties, helping shape its reputation in the commercial real estate sector.

A memorial service to honor Hal Worth will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Saint Michael’s Episcopal Church, located at 1520 Canterbury Road in Raleigh. Following the service, friends and family are invited to gather in the church’s Parish Hall. Contributions in memory of Worth may be made to Transitions LifeCare or the Boys & Girls Club of Wake County to support causes he championed during his lifetime.
