RALEIGH, N.C. — The Raleigh Police Department says a planned stickup on Foxhound Road near Buffaloe Road ended with one 18-year-old dead Monday night. Wake County prosecutors are charging the dead teen’s brother and a second young man, and they are not charging the person the group tried to rob.

Officers identified the person killed as Christopher Peart. Investigators say he, his brother Christian Peart, also 18, and Chase Ince, 18, set up a meeting with a man they meant to rob at gunpoint.

As the attempt unfolded, that man tried to leave in his car under fire, lost control and crashed, then got out and fired back toward the brothers, killing Christopher Peart, police said. Christian Peart stayed at the scene and was not wounded.

Detectives later reached the intended target, who cooperated with the case. Wake County prosecutors under the District Attorney’s Office said they will not charge him in the shooting death, according to the Raleigh Police Department on Wednesday.

Christian Peart is accused of trying to rob someone while armed, of plotting that robbery with others, and of firing into a vehicle that had someone inside. Ince is accused only of joining the robbery plot. A Thursday afternoon court date was set for both.

Police say the case is still open. Anyone with information can call the Raleigh Police Department tip line or leave an anonymous tip with Raleigh CrimeStoppers.

Foxhound Road sits in northeast Raleigh near Buffaloe Road. Neighbors described hearing gunfire and shouting as the confrontation unfolded, and officers continue to ask the public for video or other leads that place people at the scene.
